Dhokla Recipe | Make Dhokla without Microwave

Dhokla Recipe:

After so many types of different dishes, today I want to share another one with you all. Though it is a Gujrati dish but we all love it so much. It is called Dhokla. I’m sure while eating this dish,you think that how tough the recipe will be.but believe me it’s not a very tough dish to make.it is so easy and it takes less than 30 minutes to be ready. For dhokla recipe we need some simple ingredients.

This dish is served with a tasty tamarind chutney and also soaked in sugar syrup just like a cake.and it also will look like cake when it is ready totally. This totally veg dish is healthy also. Those who are concerned about their weight and health they can easily have this.For Dhokla recipe follow the instruction below:

Ingredients(For Dhokla) –

  • Chana flour / besan (250gm)
  • Curd ( 1cup )
  • Water ( 1cup )
  • Ginger paste ( 1 teaspoon )
  • Green chili paste ( 1 teaspoon )
  • Turmeric powder ( 1/2 teaspoon )
  • Salt (as per taste)
  • Eno powder (1 cachet)

(For sugar syrup) –

  • sugar (1/2 cup )
  • Salt (1 pinch)
  • Water ( 1,1/2 cup )

(For tempering) –

  • refined oil ( 2 tablespoon )
  • Whole green chilies ( 4-5 )
  • Mustard seed ( 1 tablespoon )
  • Curry leaves (8-10)

(For tamarind chutney) –

  • tamarind pulp (1/2 cup )
  • Jagery (1 cup )
  • Salt ( as per taste)
  • Whole red chilies ( 1-2 )
  • Whole 5 spice (1/2 teaspoon )

Process –

  1. To make dhokla take a bowl.take 250gm chana flour in.now put 1 cup of curd in and make a smooth paste.
  2. Now add 1 cup of water in the mixture and mix it so well that no lump can form.
  3. Then put ginger, green chili paste , turmeric powder and salt as per taste in and mix them well.
  4. Now put a full cachet of Eno powder in and mix it with the whole mixture. After that you will see bubbles are forming.
  5. Let it rest for 15-20 min.don’t move it otherwise the fermentation will be stopped.
  6. At this time we have to prepare our sugar syrup. For that take 1/2 cup of sugar,1 pinch of salt and 1, 1/2 cup of water in a bowl and boil it till the sugar dissolves.
  7. To make the tamarind chutney heat a pan.add 1/2 teaspoon of 5 spice mix and dry roast it for 1 minute.
  8. Now add the Jagery in and let it melt.when it is melted totally add the tamarind pulp and 1 cup of water.
  9. Now put some salt as per taste. Check it. It will taste tangy.
  10. Now its time  to make our dhokla.for that take a cake mould or a aluminium bowl.brush it with refined oil.
  11. Now pour all the mixture in it.
  12. Heat a pressure cooker and pour 1 cup of water in it.
  13. put a bowl stand in it the cooker filled with 1 cup water.now settle the cake mould / aluminium boul on the stand.
  14. Cover the cooker.remove whistle and let it cook for 15-20 minutes.
  15. After that remove the cover and put a toothpick in to check the dhokla.
  16. if it is properly cooked, the toothpick will get out clean . otherwise dhokla mixture will stick in it.in that case you have to cook it for another 5-10 minutes.
  17. Now we have to make our tempering which we will put over the dhokla. For that heat 2 tablespoon oil.
  18. Add 1 tablespoon mustard seeds, whole green chilies and curry leaves in.let them splutter.
  19. Now take the dhokla out of cooker and put the tempering over the dhokla and spread it well.
  20. Now let it cool for 5-10 minutes. Then cut the dhokla into pieces of your choice and pour the sugar syrup all over the dhokla.
  21. You will see that the dhokla is soaking all the sugar syrup.don’t put much syrup otherwise the dhokla will start releasing the syrup.
  22. Now give it rest for 5 minutes and then take the pieces out in plate.pour some chutney on it and serve it with the fried green chilies. It will enhance the great taste of dhokla.
